About the Darco
The Darco is Chromag’s take on a steel full-suspension bike. It runs 120mm of rear travel with a 150–160mm fork, but the geometry is way more aggressive than the travel numbers suggest. Steep seat angle, slack head angle, long reach — basically a trail bike that doesn’t get scared when things get steep or fast.
The frame uses a 4130 chromoly front triangle paired with 6066-T6 alloy stays. You get the feel and durability of steel without ending up with a 40-lb bike. The suspension layout is simple: a Horst link with a trunnion-mount shock. No weird proprietary parts, no hidden hardware, nothing fragile. All the pivots use standard Enduro Max bearings and are easy to get to.
On the trail, it rides like a bike that wants to stay glued to the ground. It’s not trying to be a poppy, short-travel jib machine. It’s about traction, stability, and confidence. You can point it down chunky lines and it doesn’t get overwhelmed, but it still climbs cleanly because of the seat angle and Chromag’s leverage curve choices.
The Stash Take — Why We Actually Like It
-
Steel full-suspension is rare, and Chromag did it right.
This isn’t a novelty frame. It rides legitimately well, it’s quiet, and it holds lines where most short-travel bikes start to feel sketchy. -
The geometry makes more difference than the travel.
If you only looked at the numbers (120mm), you’d assume it’s limited. It’s not. You could easily take this on trails people bring 160mm bikes to and not feel undergunned. -
Minimal bullshit factor.
Serviceable pivots, standard hardware, no gimmicks. Chromag builds things that last, and the Darco fits that mold. -
It fits the “ride hard, fix easy” crowd.
Makes total sense for someone who wants one bike that doesn’t need babying and isn’t finicky. -
Good platform for custom builds.
You can spec this a lot of different ways — burly fork, big tires, cushcore, the whole deal. Or keep it lighter for long days. The frame doesn’t box you in.
Who This Frame Is For
Someone who doesn’t care about chasing gram counts, likes the feel and durability of steel, and wants a bike that punches above its travel without feeling like a sluggish enduro sled.
If you want a carbon featherweight or something “playful,” this isn’t it.
If you want a bike that rewards real riding and isn’t going to shit the bed after a season, it’s a solid choice.
